MMMay2018 Day 1 - Buttons

So for me the journey into sewing started with a love and passion for buttons so this is where I start today.

Buttons are such amazing little things, used not only for the practical of doing things up but for their decorative wonders.

Getting the right button is key when you are making a garment or like me accessorising with them.

I make a lot of button jewellery and sell it a couple of local craft shops as well as in Make at 140 I can customise the jewellery to match any outfit and it always attracts compliments when worn.

But I will be honest with you, my biggest joy comes from when a customer comes into the shop and wants to find new buttons for a garments. Up-cycle something old, make unique something new, or compliment all the hard work gone into something made. My first MMMay is this unique button necklace made with a selection on one off designed and unusual buttons from the Funky Poppy button selection at Make. I used a fabric coated wire for the button part then attached it to waxed cord using cord clamps at either end with a simple button and loop fastening.
